Amidst all the options and choices we have in this world, least did I expect choosing a Netflix show to watch would be another first world problem to deal with. With a plethora of choices to choose from, my remote seems to have lost all hope in my decision making skills. Which I concur. Not something that I admire too. Nevertheless, out of all the shows I’ve watched off-late, Ted Lasso has been one of the most heart-warming, unassuming shows I’ve seen in a long while (aired on Apple Tv+).

Ted Lasso is a stereotypical football coach from Texas, America, who leaves the Lone Star State to coach none other than a British Premier League Football club. A Texas guy in the land of the Brits — I was immediately curious to see this story unravel.

The reason I had to blog about Ted, is because his character is so defiantly good-hearted, and Jason Sudeikis has done one heck of a job enacting the role.

3 reasons why we need someone like Ted Lasso in our lives:

Utopian Positivity — You find Ted bearing this absolute positive demeanor all the time which can get you nauseous on few occasions. But, the resilience of his positive nature even amidst dire times is inspiring. And, the character does not ever give into negative reactions, irrespective of how much he is pushed around. That’s a trait I highly admire in anyone — when you do not allow the shit to get to you and you keep strutting forward.

Modest Leadership — Finding a great mentor and leader who can guide you through your journey of growth — personally and professionally is like finding a diamond in a hay stack. Ted Lasso is indeed that diamond. He seems rough around the edges, but his inherent nature is so clear and transparent that the clarity of his intent and actions always shines through — just like a diamond. He leads by example. Taking the higher road of encouragement, motivation, little gimmicks to scale team bonding, cliched cozy moments of celebration with the team, a poster called “believe” stuck in front of the players locker room — all of this culminates into creating the holistic leadership of Ted Lasso. A just leader is someone who is not keen on hogging the limelight. Through the wins he stands in the sideline allowing his team to shine, and through the rough times he is in the forefront battling the downfalls. That is the sign of a good leader, which Ted Lasso so beautifully encapsulates.

Just Plain Nice— To be a nice human being, just a decent, good human being is such a task today! To be and to find! Ted Lasso is the definition of plain, simple niceness. The decency to have good thoughts and good words about people and life around you, irrespective of what life throws at you is what makes you decent. The manner in which you conduct yourself, the courtesy to treat others with dignity and kindness is what makes you a decent and nice person. Ted Lasso baked biscuits every night to give it to his boss the next day morning, almost like a daily ritual of sorts. He went out of his way to encourage the garbage boy into becoming a coach alongside him. Even after being called a “wanker” by every single Brit in town, he smiled his way through the crowd only leading the team to victory on many fronts.

Signing off on few quotes of Lasso:

“Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn’t it? If you’re comfortable while you’re doing it, you’re probably doing it wrong.”

“If you care about someone, and you got a little love in your heart, there ain’t nothing you can’t get through together.”

“I promise you there is something worse out there than being sad, and that’s being alone and being sad. Ain’t no one in this room alone.”

“There’s two buttons I never like to hit: that’s panic and snooze.”

Bring some Ted Lasso energy into your life!
